I know I said the redesign of Minoxidil for Less would be done by now, but some things have come up and the time frame for reworking the site layout has been pushed back. But, that does not mean that we will be pushing it aside completely. We expect that we should have the new site design in place and implemented by the end of next week. If there is a miracle, it could happen this week. Ok, that last post I wrote was pretty funny, at least I think so. But, most of the people that make it here to Minoxidil for Less are not wanting to hear about shaving their heads. Most people are looking for some kind of solution to the thinning hair on the top of their heads. If you are committed, then you can probably make a difference in the fight against hair loss. Hair loss for many is hereditary. For these people, there are solutions that *may* work for you, but there is no guarantee. Products like Rogaine for men and Rogaine for women are available on an over-the-counter basis, but work in approximately 40-45% of cases. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell if Rogaine or its generic partner Minoxidil will work for you. The only way to find out is to actually try these products for a period of around 4 months to see what results you see. Remember, we are talking about keeping your hair here and not making your teeth whiter. Your options are limited. There is no magical way to make your hair grow back naturally. This is not easy. Am I making myself clear. But, the good news is, application of products like Rogaine or Revivogen is easy once you get into the habbit. You apply these products twice a day and before you know it, this process becomes just like brushing your teeth. The first few weeks can be a pain.

I am not trying to scare anyone away from using these great products. I just want you to understand that this can be difficult at the beginning. I know, I have used these products for years. And, while I don’t anymore, this is not because they did not work very well for me. I simply decided to let nature take its course. This was a personal decision on my part.

Remember when it seemed like you had this much hair on your head? I do. I look back at my childhood pictures and I swear that I looked just like this guy. I had too much hair. It was poofy, it was hot, it was everywhere. Today, I have a spot that is getting thinner by the day and to be honest, I have decided to just let it go. I stopped using any kind of hair loss treatments a couple of years ago and since then I have seen my hair revert back to where I figured it would be at this point. So, if you want to keep your hair, don’t stop using the Rogaine, Minoxidil or whatever you are using. For me, I just decided that I was going to go au natural and if it got to a point that it was “bad enough” I decided that I would just shave my head. That is just how I roll.

Many black people think that hair loss treatments like Rogaine or Minoxidil are not suitable for use by people of color. However, Rogaine and Minoxidil are suitable for use on both men and women of color just as they are for caucasians. We carry over the counter hair loss products for both men and women. However, we receive a lot of questions asking us about hair loss in areas other than the top of the scalp. Rogaine and Minoxidil have not bee approved by the FDA to regrow hair in any areas other than the top of the human scalp. If your hair loss appears on the top of your head, as in this picture, and you have hair loss somewhere in your family (on either your mother or father’s side) then Rogaine or Minoxidil may work for you. If and how well it may work for you depends on a number of different factors. The most important factor is how soon after the thinning of the hair on your scalp you start treatment. Studies have shown that the sooner you begin using Rogine or Minoxidil, the more effective they will be.

Hereditary hair loss, or hair loss that can be found in your family lineage is different than spotty hair loss. Spotty hair loss, or balding areas that appear on the side of the scalp, are not usually due to hereditary factors and are usually caused by diet, stress, or other medications. If you are experiencing spotty hair loss, then you should consult your physician about possible treatments. This may also be a sign of some deficiency or physical problem. In this case, Rogaine and Minoxidil are not an option to help regrow your hair.

Using “No More Tears” from Johnson and Johnson was something our parents did for us, because it didn’t hurt when we were splashing around in the tub. However, using a quality shampoo is really one of the best things you can do to keep your scalp healthy. Granted, hair loss is primarily a hereditary problem, you should take care of your hair just like you should take care of the rest of your body. There are many great shampoos on the market, but unfortunately, they cost a bit more than ordinary “drug store” shampoos. But, don’t be tempted by bargain prices. Find a shampoo that works with your hair as well as your budget. Your hair will thank you.

Researchers attempting to minimize hair loss associated with cancer radiation treatments have apparently found some success with existing “intensity modulated radiation therapy” (IMRT) with “image-guided radiation therapy” (IGRT) technologies. Better targeting of the radiation has apparently enabled researchers to attack the tumors and leave surrounding tissue containing hair follicles alone. If this proves true, this will be a great help to the mindset and mental health of people undergoing radiation treatment in the future.

As I have stated here in the past, women’s hair loss can be caused by a number of different factors. I just came across this women’s hair loss article that talks about the many different causes of female hair loss. As with men, stress can cause the body to have all kinds of problems including loss of hair. But, in women, there are a myriad of other physiological factors that can contribute to hair loss. Some of which products like Rogaine for Women or Minoxidil for Women will not help with.
