UK Researches May Have Found a “Hairless” Gene

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

Researchers in the UK may have found a gene that will help scientists to better understand hair loss in human beings in the near future. At this point, scientists are still unsure of the exact resons why men and women lose their hair. The discovery of a gene that helps to repress a protein linked to hair loss may prove to be a major breakthrough in the years to come. In a nutshell, the gene represses the production of a protein called, wise. Wise may cause hair follicles to stop producing new hair once old hair is shed. This is a disruption in the normal hair growth process which includes growth, regression and rest phases.

Diet Can Affect Hair Loss

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

I guess we don’t really talk about what can cause hair loss enough and I often take my years of experience helping people cope and treat hair loss for granted. So, today when I came across an article about diet and hair loss I thought I would write a little more about it here. The article in the Post Gazette has some great information. Most people do not realize that a healthy diet is probably the most important thing to normal, healthy body functions, right there with adequate sleep. Most people don’t seem to think that eating pizza every day or not getting enough sleep on a regular basis can really affect their bodies in a negative way. One of the ways our bodies let us know that we are not doing something right is by showing signs of illness, allergic reactions and hair loss. As the article points out, both men and women are affected by hair loss from improper or inadequate diets. Most of the people who notice this and seek treatment however are women. Men probably just figure that they are losing their hair for hereditary reasons, but many times, the reason may be from their diet.

How to Apply Revivogen

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

Revivogen is like most other topical hair loss treatments in that it is applied directly to the scalp twice a day. This is pretty easy to remember as you brush your teeth in the morning and again at night, so incorporating the Revivogen application should be a snap. Apply the prescribed amount directly to the top of the scalp and massage into the scalp if you would like. This is usually helpful as most people feel like the product is going to run off of their head. There is no harm in using your fingertips to massage Revivogen into your scalp. That is basically the application procedure. You will want to allow the Reivovgen Formula to dry before you apply any other treatments or products to your hair. This will ensure that the product will not react with any other products and that your scalp will have the best chance of utilizing the ingredients in Revivogen.

Summer is Coming. How Does Your Hair Look?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

As if you did not know. Summer is on the way. Time to get that exercise program in high gear and make sure that your hair is looking it’s best. One thing people who are losing their hair don’t think about is getting a good hair cut. Just like shaving, cutting your hair more frequently helps it to grow more vigorously. Letting your hair grow longer is not always the best solution. Even if you would like to grow your hair out, you still need to get it trimmed somewhat frequently to help stimulate growth. You should also make sure that you are going to someone who knows what they are doing and that are using good equipment. Sharp and clean scissors are a must. If your hair stylists’ place is a mess, move on.

Can I Use Minoxidil and Revivogen at the Same Time?

Thursday, May 19th, 2005

Many people ask us if they can use Minoxidil and Revivogen at the same time. The answer is yes in most cases. First let me say that we are not doctors and if you have any questions about the safety of using products like Minoxidil or Revivogen, then you should seek the advice of your physician. With that said, we have heard many good feedback from people who have found success with Rogaine/Minoxidil and wanted to broaden their horizons a bit and try Revivogen as well. Waiting until each product has dried on the scalp is a good idea and I would probably let it sit there for a while before I applied a second product…maybe an hour or so. The Revivogen shampoo is also a great idea as well as it contains the Revivogen Formula in the shampoo so you get some added benefit while you clean your hair…and it smells great too (Peppermint). So, if you are already having success with Minoxidil and you would like to add an anti-DHT product to your regimen, check out Revivogen it might be a great combo for you.

Rogaine - Possible Side Effects

Wednesday, May 4th, 2005

Just as with any drug or treatment you use, Rogaine has some possible side effects that you should be aware of in the event you detect one. For the most part Rogaine’s potential side effects are minimal and should not cause you great alarm. The most common side effect of Rogaine use on the scalp is dry, irritated skin on the top of the scalp. If you are using Rogaine and start to feel some discomfort on your scalp, discontinue use immediately. If you are using 5% Rogaine for Men, you may want to try using the 2% formula as some people are more sensitive to the 5% than others. You can read more about Rogaine and possible side effects on our Rogaine FAQ.

Rogaine 2% for Women

Monday, April 25th, 2005

For the women out there who are dealing with hair loss, there is help. Rogaine has been approved by the FDA for use by women in a 2% topical solution. Rogaine for Women is designed to be used by women who are suffering from a general loss of hair or thinning of the hair on the top of the scalp. Rogaine is not for women who have lost a patch of hair. Just like Rogaine for men, Rogaine for Women is for women who have a history of hair loss in their family. The hair loss can be on either side of your family and the old tale about hair loss being inherited from the mother’s side is unsubstatiated. If you fit this description, then Rogaine may help you to slow down your hair loss, stop it completely or even regrow your hair in some cases. The sooner you use Rogaine the better. Studies have shown that the earlier you treat your hair loss, the better your results will be.

Why Rogaine for Women?

Rogaine for women is the only FDA approved medication to treat hair loss in women. Rogaine has helped millions of women around the world to deal with their hair loss. Will Rogaine work for you if you have a history of hair loss and are suffering from general hair loss? Nobody knows. The only way to find out if Rogaine will work for you is to try it.

How to Use Rogaine

Rogaine is applied twice a day to the scalp. Once in the morning and once at night. It is a liquid that is made up mostly of alcohol so that it will evaporate quickly and be easily spread across the top of your scalp. Rogaine must be used for a period of at least 4 months (preferably more) to see if Rogaine will work for you. Using it for less time is a waste. You can color your hair, perm it or do anything else that you can dream of. Rogaine will not be affected by this.

Is there a 5% Solution for Women?

We are often asked if there is a 5% Rogaine solution for women. The answer is no. There were trials conducted by Pharmacia Corporation and in the end, it appears that there was no noticeable difference between the 2% solution and the 5% solution as was seen in men.
